Next week, Todd Snyder and Champion will be showcasing their Fall/Winter 2013 collaborative effort at PROJECT NY. The men’s sportswear line, entitled “City Gym”, is inspired by archival Champion pieces and vintage photos from the New York Athletic Club. Snyder designed the collection in partnership with Champion’s Chief Design Officer, Ned Munroe, and Design Director, Joanne Sessler. The lineup blends the best styles and fabrics from Champion’s vast archive of sales catalogs with Snyder’s love of classic American tailoring. The end result is a collaboration that sees the designer add a modern aesthetic to archived Champion’s apparel and shedding light on the authenticity and quality of the American brand.
The 35-piece collection features a neutral heathered palette of grays, oatmeals, and stone colors accented by rich team colors – crimson, vintage green and washed royal. The line will include garment dyed t-shirts ($55 retail), vintage thermal long-sleeve crews ($85 retail) and sweats ($125 retail) that have an authentic feel and would impress any avid collector of Champion. All styles carry an authentic 1950’s Champion label with “T.SNYDER” stenciled in the back of each garment – reminiscent of the Champion gym uniforms worn by Todd Snyder in his school years. Other pieces in the collection include merino wool varsity sweaters ($275 retail), waxed duffel coats ($450 retail), modern wool flannel varsity jackets done in athletic heathers and loden olives ($700 retail), and more.
“City Gym” will land in select North American stores in August 2013. The collection will be showcased at Project NY January 21-23 and at the Tents at Project Las Vegas February 19- 21. Sales and distribution will be handled by Todd Snyder via their showroom in New York.
