Arguably one of the most anticipated cars of the year has been officially unveiled. The second-generation Audi R8 features a naturally-aspirated 5.2 FSI V10 mid-engine that’s churning out 610 horsepower with 413 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a 7-speed S tronic transmission and a refined quattro system. That makes way for a 3.2 second 0 to 62 mph time and a top speed o 205 mph. So that’s the R8 V10 Plus. There’s a more tamed model also that dishes out 540 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque that comes a little cheaper. The new R8 is lightweight and features optimum axle load distribution. There’s a mix of aluminum and carbon fiber reinforced plastics in the Audi Space Frame while the aerodynamic underbody integrates a long diffuser to boost downforce. The chassis is also worth noting as its double wishbone suspension will surely keep the purists out there interested. In terms of design, this is very much an R8 with its wide, muscular body. The standard LED headlights are great as always while there’s also an option for laser high beams with dynamic turn signals at the front (standard on rear). Audi’s announced that the new R8 will go on sale this summer with pricing set at 165,000 Euros for the V10 and 187,400 Euros for the V10 Plus. There’s also an electric-powered production E-Tron model that will deliver 456 horses and 679 lb-ft of torque. Yikes. Check out some photos of the new R8 below and get ready for a pretty eventful Geneva Motor Show kicking off next week.
