‘M’, a new personal digital assistant for Facebook Messenger has begun its test phase. The service will complete tasks and find information for you. It is powered by an AI-based service, but unlike similar services on the market, it can complete tasks on your behalf like sending gifts to friends, buying products, making reservations at restaurants, and making travel arrangements. The testing of M was announced by David Marcus, the President of Messaging Products at Facebook. It will take some time until M can be scaled for the market, but its development tells us that Facebook Messenger will soon also be on par with, if not better than, other digital assistants like Apple’s Siri and Microsoft’s Cortana.
