Yesterday, adidas unveiled the Futurecraft 3D, a unique 3D-printed running shoe that can be personalized for athletes. The technology is meant to create a flexible, breathable carbon copy of each athlete’s footprint for the best running experience possible. Imagine walking into an adidas store, running for a few minutes on a treadmill, and almost immediately having a running shoe made just for you – that’s what Futurecraft 3D aims to achieve.
The adidas 3D printed shoe concept is a part of the Futurecraft initiative, the company’s commitment to innovation through open-source collaboration. This collaboration in particular was with Materialise, a leading specialist in 3D printing. There will be more groundbreaking Futurecraft innovations to be revealed in the next six months, so stay tuned.
