This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Boxster and Porsche is celebrating right with the unveiling of the latest generation of its mid-engine roadsters in the form of the 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S. The “718” pays homage to flat-four cylinder engines that were used in the mid-engine 718 sports car in the late 1950s and early 1960s. That 718 won a ton of races and so it’s only right Porsche infuse the latest generation of Boxsters with even more performance. Thanks to a newly developed, turbocharged flat four-cylinder engine, the 718 Boxster cranks out 300 horsepower from two liters of displacement, while the 718 Boxster S uses a 2.5 liter engine that produces 350 horsepower. There’s also a completely retuned suspension alongside uprated brakes, which when mixed with a more aggressive overall design, makes for a car that’s sure to perform and turn heads in the process. Save the luggage compartment lids, the windshield and the convertible top, everything else is new.

The front end has a wider stance while the larger cooling air intakes serve as a major signifier for the new generation of Boxsters. Other enhancements include a new headlights with LED daytime running lights as well as newly styled wings and side sills. The car comes standard with 19-inch wheels and if you’re really trying to take things to the next level, 20-inch beauties are also available as an option.

Porsche dealers are taking orders now for the new 718 Boxster and Boxster S before they reach showrooms in late June 2016. MSRP for the 718 Boxster starts at $56,000, and $68,400 for the 718 Boxster S, $1,050 destination charge excluded. Check them out in the gallery below.
