The TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper For Hodinkee Is An Instant Classic

Hodinkee’s latest collaboration sees them partnering with TAG Heuer and bringing back their iconic Carrera Skipper wristwatch. The original reference 7754 Heuer Skipper is a hard find, having originally been released in 1968 to celebrate the America’s Cup victory of the groundbreaking Intrepid the year before. From there, it stayed in production for the next 10 years, with a succession of different cases taken from either the Carrera or the Autavia while also featuring the colors found on the 1967 America’s Cup-winning yacht Intrepid. And now with summer in full swing and the America’s Cup happening right now in Bermuda, Hodinkee and TAG Heuer have dropped an instant classic. While a ton of inspiration comes from the original Skipper, this iteration is very much its own. The case goes up to 39mm from the original 7754’s 35mm while the dial gets a date window a la another Heuer classic, the 3147 Heuer Carrera Dato 45. The color combination from the original Skipper still remains here, with the pops of light green, dark blue, and bright orange all feeling right at home and easily grabbing our attention.
