Inside The Levi’s Tailor Shop [San Francisco]

Inside The Levi’s Tailor Shop [San Francisco]

Levi Strauss & Co. celebrated Independence Day by opening a one-of-a-kind customization shop at their flagship store in San Francisco’s Union Square. The Tailor Shop goes above and beyond what we’ve seen in the past and offers full customization for all Levi’s denim products, from the jeans to the jackets. ACL also tells us there is now an in-house chain stitch machine, an embroidery machine and a darning machine, and customers are able to make their own buttons, choose vintage patches, and screen print to fully customize their jeans.

Also on display are 50 vintage trucker jackets with chain stitch embroidery, collections of vintage labels, back packets, back patches and an array of famous Levi’s red tabs.

Man Up. San Francisco Pop Up [Menswear Market]

Man Up. San Francisco

With the majority of menswear press time dedicated to events taking place in or around NYC, Man Up San Francisco brings a breath of fresh air to the neglected west coast. Seriously, apart from a trade show here and there taking place in Vegas, I have yet to see a good event actually worth the trip out west. With shops like San Fran’s own Unionmade, Room4 Vintage and labels like Taylor Stitch and Pierrepont Hicks all set to be at the Cal Modern Art Gallery on the last weekend of January, it’s definitely a visit everyone should make if possible.

The men’s department is definitely evolving and men across the country (not just in the NY area) are taking notice. Behind Man Up are few distinguished gentlemen with whom everyone should become familiar. Watch the video for the event after the jump.

McSweeny’s San Francisco Panorama

McSweeny’s San Francisco Panorama

Issue 33 of McSweeney’s Quarterly will be a one-time only, Sunday-edition-sized newspaper—the San Francisco Panorama. The edition gives a little bit of life back to what is otherwise a dying medium. It’ll have news and sports and arts coverage, and comics (sixteen pages of glorious, full-color comics, from Chris Ware and Dan Clowes and Art Spiegelman and many others besides) and a magazine and a weekend guide, and will basically be an attempt to demonstrate all the great things print journalism can (still) do, with as much first-rate writing and reportage and design (and posters and games and on-location Antarctic travelogues) as the team can get in there.

SF Bike Expo Fashion Show

SF Bike Expo Fashion Show

Momentum Magazine recently sponsored a bike fashion show in San Fran and as you can see from this Flickr set, we definitely missed out. Mention clothes and bicycles in the same breath and you’ve certainly got our attention! There’s alot that can be taken from these shots. The styling is great for inspiration and the bikes make for good eye candy. The models did a great job it seems as we didn’t hear of any falling disastrously off stage while smiling for the cameras.

Inside San Francisco’s UNIONMADE

Inside San Francisco's UNIONMADE

James over at Secret Forts made a trip to San Fran’s UNIONMADE this weekend, giving us an inside look at the newly opened shop. As we’re avid readers, when he recommends a shop, it’s worth taking note. The shop has a strong offering of American goods including Filson travel bags, classic Woolrich pieces, SNS Herning sweaters, Rogues Gallery flannels and Hill-side ties and scarves. They also carry a few pieces from Alden, including a custom brick sole saddle shoe and a model Alden manufactured for L.L. Bean in the 40’s, both for Spring.

UNIONMADE is located at 493 Sanchez & 18th San Francisco, CA 94114.
