Paws with a Cause is a Michigan-based dog shelter that trains dogs. No, not to sit or to roll over. They’re a bit more.. advanced. Buddy, Joe Stalnaker’s German sheperd, has been trained to press programmed buttons until a 911 operator is on the line, should his owner suffer seizure symptoms.
Well, that’s exactly what happened. When Joe, of Scottsdale, Arizona went in to a seizure, Buddy dialed 911 and could be heard on the phone barking after the medics arrived. This isn’t the first time that Buddy’s dialed 911 for Mr. Stalnaker; it’s actually the third.
Scottsdale police sergeant Mark Clark said Mr. Stalnaker spent two days in a hospital but has recovered from the seizure. He said: “It’s pretty incredible. Even the veteran dispatchers – they haven’t heard of anything like this.” Sgt Clark added Mr Stalnaker’s seizures are the result of a head injury he suffered about 10 years ago during a military training exercise.
