Google hopes to take more of Microsoft’s slice with Offline e-mail access

Google’s web-based e-mail service Gmail is hoping to reach out to business customers by giving Gmail offline access. Google’s enabling an experimental ability to read, write, and search Gmail messages even while not connected to the network, something that might be useful for that 5 hour plane ride.

By adding offline e-mail access to Gmail’s arsenal, Google Apps is look more and more like the application suite of the future, trumping Microsoft Exchange server and Outlook’s PC software. Target market? Everyone.
