After much anticipation, The Highline redevelopment opened to the public today in New York City‘s Meatpacking District. The design was created by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, a New York-based architecture firm and landscape architects Field Operations.  First created in the 1930s, the Highline was originally an elevated rail line that remained in use until the 80s. Now, the first section is complete with the second section scheduled for completion by next year.

The new design features a winding pathway accompanied by wildlife on each side. Throughout the strip of elevated terrain the architects also placed benches and other special areas for gathering.
