Introducing the MB&F MusicMachine 2, arguably the most advanced music box in the world, and this one done up in a gunmetal finish exclusively for our friends at HODINKEE. MB&F partnered with Reuge, who pioneered the mechanical music box category almost 150 years ago, for both the MusicMachine 1 in 2013 and now the MM2 as well. They’re the only remaining high-end mechanical music box manufacturer in the world but yet they continue to push the envelope, this time creating a MusicMachine 2 that delivers sounds in stereo, with the pitch and quality of the sound not being impacted by where the machine is sitting. The MM2 has its own completely revolutionary resonance dome, made of 350-year-old Swiss spruce trees and a cutting edge honeycomb Kevlar called Nomex. It plays six songs, three on each of two cylinders. On one, you get Star Wars, Star Trek, and The Empire Strikes Back. On the other, there’s Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven, The Rolling Stones’ Angie, and the Clash’s Should I Stay Or Should I Go? What a lineup.
The exclusive HODINKEE gunmetal grey finish is the most limited in production, with only five being made. The team chose to leave all aluminum pieces untreated, meaning there is no lacquer on them. Quite a raw and traditional finish for something so futuristic and jaw-dropping. The MB&F MusicMachine 2 Gunmetal for HODINKEE can be purchased for $23,500, exclusively through the HODINKEE Shop.
