‘Pawn Sacrifice’ Trailer Offers First Look at Tobey Maguire as Bobby Fischer
Chess is a game that many play but very few have mastered. Bobby Fischer was not only a master, he’s arguably the greatest chess player who ever lived. It came with a toll, however, which is chronicled in the upcoming movie “Pawn Sacrifice,” starring Tobey Maguire as Fischer.
The trailer for “Pawn Sacrifice” just hit the web, giving us a glimpse of the dark side of the chess world as it follows Fischer from his days as a young chess genius to his legendary match against Russian champion Boris Spassky in the 1972 World Chess Championship. Along the way, he suffers breakdowns, paranoia and an encroaching madness. Much like “A Beautiful Mind” or “The Theory of Everything,” “Pawn Sacrifice” promises to reveal the high price of genius.
Directed by Ed Zwick, the movie also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Lily Rabe and Live Schreiber as Spassky. “Pawn Sacrifice” opens in theaters in September.
