XCAR showcases the new McLaren 650S, which is essentially a face-lifted version of the 12C. Reviewers said that the 12C would have come out better had it been held back a couple more years and the 650S features the enhancements they would have expected of an upgraded 12C version. Transmission is smooth with the seven-speed dual-clutch and huge carbon-ceramic brakes add to the cars natural pedal feel. The car is comfortable to drive and has a minimalistic interior design with signature McLaren branded features. The 650S gets its name from its 650-PS European horsepower rating (or 641 SAE horsepower). The twin-turbo-charged 3.8-liter V8 engine car has 500 lb-ft of torque. The added power, compared to the 616 horsepower and 443 lb-ft torque of the 12C, is a result of revised cam timing, new pistons and heads, new exhaust valves, and an entirely new exhaust system. The 650S can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and achieves triple digit speeds in only 5.9 seconds, so it is definitely one of the faster cars on the road.
