London’s Sotheby’s will auction off a much sought after Speedster edition of the 1956 Porsche 356. The iconic model is low-slung and engineered for a pleasurable driving experience, rather than comfort. The four-speed manual transmission drives the sportscar on an 82.7-inch wheelbase. Its 1,582cc air-cooled four cylinder engine produces 60p, which may seem paltry by today’s standards but owning one of these is no longer about speed, but about the history and sheer enjoyment of it. This Porsche was part of the minimalist revolution back in 1956, which made it a favorite among collectors like Steve McQueen. The listing price for the auction will start at $270,000.
