JR’s ‘Ellis’ Starring Robert De Niro Gets First Trailer

JR's-Ellis-Trailer-is-Hauntingly-Beautiful-01

Street artist JR’s new film, Ellis, finally got its much-awaited trailer. Written by Academy Award winner Eric Roth and starring Robert de Niro, Ellis recalls the narratives of the 1.2 million immigrants who, from 1902 to 1954, escaped the Old World, braved a dangerous sea voyage, and entered America through the Ellis Island Immigrant Hospital, all in search of a better life.

The Ellis trailer shows Robert de Niro walking alone through the lonely halls of the abandoned hospital complex. The walls, floors, windows, and doors of the facility are plastered with black-and-white archival photographs of many of the immigrants, making the halls seem to come alive in a ghostly, emotional way.

Watch the Ellis trailer below, and get your tickets here for Ellis‘s Oct 4 screening at The New Yorker Festival.
