Bill Cunningham - 57th street and Fifth Ave

On June 25th 2016, the iconic street style photographer Bill Cunningham unfortunately passed away at the age of 87. For decades, Cunningham spent his days riding his bike around NYC capturing the vibrant fashion of New Yorkers. In a statement about the late photographer, Mayor Bill de Blasio said, “Bill Cunningham turned our sidewalks into runways and New Yorkers into models… His vivid photos captured our city’s diversity in every sense of the word, and helped define New York as the fashion capital of the world.” To honor his great work and character, NYC has temporarily named his favorite intersection, located at 57th Street and Fifth Avenue, Bill Cunningham Corner. The legendary photographers influence was undoubtedly great, with over 6000 individuals signing a petition in support of the name change. While the change is only temporary, Cunningham’s legacy will surely live on forever.
