Fans are getting their first glimpse of Matt Damon’s upcoming sci-fi film The Great Wall, a US-China co-production spearheaded by director Zhang Yimou. The movie’s official logline states that, “Legendary’s The Great Wall tells the story of an elite force making a valiant stand for humanity on the world’s most iconic structure.” In the trailer, it poses the question: what were they trying to keep out? The answer is revealed when monsters make an appearance and fighting begins on the grounds of the famous landmark. Matt Damon plays a European mercenary, detained at the sight, who joins forces with the group of Chinese soldiers to defeat the mysterious invading creatures. The cast is star-studded and features Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe, Andy Lau, Lu Han and Jing Tian. The Great Wall is set to release on December 16 2016 in China and February 17 2017 in the US.
