Ibn Jasper x Converse Pro Leather Sneaker Blends Basketball Heritage with Skate and Music Culture

Barber, skater, designer and stylist Ibn Jasper has partnered with Converse for a modern rework of the brand’s iconic Pro Leather silhouette. Growing up in 1980s Chicago, Ibn wore the silhouette on the streets and saw Julius Erving do the same in the courts. Now, Converse has reissued the Pro Leather style for this project with Ibn reinterpreting the classic in a way that combines basketball, skating, and music.

The shoe’s aesthetic pulls inspiration from a photo Ibn saw of Dr. J walking into the arena with an all-white outfit. The end result is a high top sneaker in white leather and detailed with a grey suede overlap near the midsole. Offered as a homage to Dr. J’s legacy, the shoe also features embossed Roman numerals near the collar, a zipper that runs vertically down the lacing area, a “1976” lace dubrae that nods the original shoe’s debut year, a snaked embossed tongue, brass hardware, embossed Stripe and Star logos on the heel and medial regions, and metallic stitched detailing on the later sides. Interior is finished off with pink leather while the outsole’s done up in a cream-colored finish.
