Porsche Design and Sotheby’s to Auction Matching 1972 Porsche 911 and Porsche Chronograph 1

Porsche Design, in partnership with Sotheby’s, is set to auction off two unique and iconic items linked to F. A. Porsche and Porsche Design at Sotheby’s Luxury Week in New York. The auction serves as the grand finale celebrating Porsche Design’s 50-year anniversary.

Both the vehicle and the timepiece spent six months as part of the 50 Years of Porsche Design special exhibition at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, and then at Monterey Car Week in California in August 2022.

Offered as a single lot, the auction pieces include a one-off carefully restored 1972 Porsche 911 S 2.4 Targa “50 Years of Porsche Design Edition” car and a matching one-of-a-kind Porsche Design Chronograph 1, an exclusive edition of the original 1972 timepiece that F. A. Porsche created for Porsche Design in the same year.

The 1972 Porsche 911, is a unique restoration of the 1972 Porsche 911 S 2.4 Targa done with the help of Porsche Classic. The Factory One-Off was built as part of the new Sonderwunsch Programme and sports a new Porsche Design 911 edition black colorway with high-gloss platinum accents. The car features Sport Tex fabric in a black and Cool Gray checkered pattern, “Porsche Design” lettering on both sides, and an “Edition 50 Years Porsche Design” emblem on the dashboard.

The Porsche Design Chronograph 1 – Porsche 911 S 2.4 Targa edition is a custom-made version of the limited anniversary edition of the Chronograph 1, the first Porsche Design product. The first entirely matte black watch sports a black dial, contrasting dial design, red second hand, and highly antireflective glass. The Porsche Design logo makes its appearance on the dial, crown, wristband, and case back.

The auction will take place as part of Sotheby’s Luxury Week in New York from November 29th at 12:00 PM EST to December 14th at 12:00 PM EST.
