Grand Seikos’ latest addition to its permanent sports collection takes its inspiration from the brand’s emblem, the lion. The Grand Seiko SBGC253 Spring Drive Chronograph GMT features a design only seen before in limited edition models and the watchmaker’s in-house Spring Drive movement.
The SBGC253 Spring Drive Chronograph GM features a 44.5mm ultra-angular high-intensity titanium case with polished and brushed surfaces, an ivory-white dial pattern inspired by the lion’s mane, a 24-hour bezel coated with LumiBrite, a sapphire crystal insert, hours/minutes indicator, 24h additional time zone, chronograph with central seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour counters, small seconds, date, and power reserve indicator. The new SBGC253 comes with a high-intensity titanium bracelet, a folding clasp with a slide adjuster, and 200m water resistance.
The watch is powered by the in-house Spring Drive caliber 9R86 visible under the sapphire case back, a column-wheel chronograph with 72h power reserve, and an accuracy of ±1 second per day.
The Grand Seiko SBGC253 Spring Drive Chronograph GMT will be available in March 2023 from Grand Seiko boutiques and retailers worldwide, with a $12,000 price tag.
