BMW’s 738-hp plug-in-hybrid 2024 BMW XM Label Red debuted last Tuesday, making it the marque’s mightiest M-badged model. The 2024 BMW XM Label Red is a plug-in-hybrid SUV that packs more power than any previous M-badged BMW but can still be street-legal.
The more powerful version of its M-only hybrid SUV comes with a redesign, a twin-turbo V-8-powered drivetrain, and an adjustable, rear-biased all-wheel-drive system. The extra power comes from new tuning for the 4.4-liter V-8 up front and a singular unmodified electric motor sitting between the engine and the eight-speed transmission with ratings of 194 hp and 206 lb-ft of torque. Combined, the two power sources make a maximum of 738 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. This allows the Bimmer to go from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds. If you opt for the M Driver’s package, top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph or 175 mph.
The 2024 BMW XM Label Red carries a 19.2-kWh lithium-ion battery pack under the floor with an estimated electric driving range of 30 miles. A full recharge takes 3.25 hours using the 7.4-kW onboard charger.
All 2024 BMW XM Label Red variants come standard with adaptive dampers, active anti-roll bars, an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential, and M compound brakes with fixed six-piston front calipers and floating single-piston rear clampers. 23-inch wheels are standard, with 22-inch wheels as a cost-free option.
On the outside, the Label Red features Toronto Red accent detailing on the trim strip that goes along the car, the large kidney grille, and badges. The same red theme also carries over into the cabin detailing. The seats, instrument panel, door trim, center console, stitched surfaces throughout the cabin, and dashboard HVAC vents are the same red color. The new Red Label also comes with a heads-up display, a curved glass panel combining a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 14.9-inch touchscreen with iDrive 8.5 infotainment software, and several M-specific controls. It comes standard with a Harman Kardon stereo system, with an option for a 1475-watt Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound system.
BMW will release pricing information for the 2024 BMW XM Label Red closer to the release date, and production is expected to begin at its Spartanburg, South Carolina facility in August.
