Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘Golden Era’ is a One-of-a-kind Automotive Masterpiece

The Bugatti Sur Mesure division handles customers’ ambitious customizations for their vehicles. With Achim Anscheidt, former Bugatti Design Director in charge of this creation, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘Golden Era’ was recently revealed after a culmination of two years of bespoke craftsmanship.

The Golden Era started when a Bugatti collector approached the division with a deep appreciation for Bugatti history to honor the intricate engineering of the W16 engine, which will end production after the final 2024 Mistral roadster. He chose a Chiron Super Sport to celebrate the combustion engine design and to show homage to the history that had led to the creation of this engine. With that, the design team developed a proposal that captured the essence of that design brief; a concept featuring 45 sketches of the brand’s icons that would be hand-drawn directly onto the car itself.

The Golden Era uses a Bugatti Chiron Super Sport as its base, with a quad-turbocharged version of the 8.0-liter W-16 engine that packs 1,578 hp. It has a distinct long-tailed carbon-fiber bodywork from the 300-mph Super Sport 300+.

The vehicle’s unique styling features a paint scheme that begins from the metallic variant of Nocturne Black in front that transitions to a bespoke light golden ‘Doré’ paint hue. On the passenger side, the metallic black paint gives way to 26 hand-drawn sketches that reveal icons like the Type 41 Royale and the Type 57 SC Atlantic. It also showcases iconic moments in Bugatti’s storied automotive history, including planes, a train, the company’s headquarters in Molsheim, and signatures from Jean and Ettore Bugatti. On the driver’s side, 19 sketches portray Bugatti’s rebirth and ongoing success since 1987, that includes the EB110, the Veyron, Chiron2, Divo, Centodieci, Mistral, Bolide, and the on-off La Voiture Noire. Part of the tableau is the 3,712 individual components that make up the W16 engine.

It doesn’t stop there; the interior of the Golden Era gets as much love as the exterior with subtle ‘Golden Era’ stitching on the headrests, hand-written ‘One-of-One’ motifs, ‘1987–2023’ written on the driver’s-side door sill marking Bugatti’s modern era, and ‘1909–1956’ on the passenger’s side door sill referring to the original Bugatti company’s run. The centerpiece comes in the form of art pieces on the door panels. The design team hand-applied three Bugatti icons on each door panel using a bespoke paint and fine paint brush that would allow one of the design team to draw directly onto the leather. The end result features the EB110, Veyron, and Chiron on one side, facing the icons of the past that had inspired them on the other: the Type 35, Type 57 SC Atlantic, and Type 41 Royale.

With the handover scheduled at the upcoming Monterey Car Week, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘Golden Era’ will stand as a testament to Bugatti’s W16 history and craftsmanship for years to come. For more information, please visit the Bugatti website.
