Mattel Creations x Daniel Arsham Hot Wheels Collection | Pioneering New Dimensions in Die-Cast Designs
Mattel has set the stage for an unprecedented collaboration with visionary artist Daniel Arsham, redefining the limits of die-cast craftsmanship. The exclusive Hot Wheels® collection, titled ‘Laps,’ introduces a series of meticulously curated 1:64 scale models and accessories that seamlessly blend artistry and automotive excellence. This groundbreaking partnership represents a fusion of Arsham’s signature eroded aesthetic and Hot Wheels’ unique craftsmanship.
Arsham, known for his explorations in fictional archaeology, reimagines eight intricately designed die-cast vehicles, released in limited quantities across four drops, titled ‘Laps.’ Arsham curated each model to reflect a unique blend of history and contemporary art by embracing the heritage of Hot Wheels while infusing his distinct eroded touch.
The first drop, Lap One, launching on October 27th, will introduce the Rodger Dodger filtered through Arsham’s signature imprint. It comes with a crystalized rendition of the iconic Porsche 930 Turbo. Also, part of the first drop is the Eroded Super Rally Case, which pays homage to the original Hot Wheels Rally Case from 1968. There will also be a selection of accessories, including keychains, stickers, and a limited collection of prints available as part of the release.
Mattel Creations’ design team pushed the boundaries of conventional die-cast manufacturing with the collab, utilizing groundbreaking materials to bring Arsham’s vision to life. Silkstone, a contemporary composite material known for its porcelain-like appearance and previously featured in premium Barbie dolls, marks a revolutionary addition to the 1:64 scale model landscape. This pioneering use of Silkstone in the production of the Hot Wheels collection is a significant milestone in the history of die-cast craftsmanship.
There’s a gallery event at 45 Grand Street in NYC, 10012, from 12-7 PM on October 21st and 22nd for those who want to experience the collaboration in future archaeology live, ahead of the official release.
The official launch of the Mattel Creations x Daniel Arsham Hot Wheels collection is scheduled to happen on October 27th at 9:00 AM PST, available exclusively on MattelCreations.com.
