Dacia Sandrider | A New Contender Roars Into The Dakar Rally

In a surprising move that’s caught the attention of motorsport enthusiasts worldwide, Dacia, the renowned brand synonymous with affordable vehicles, is stepping into the high-stakes arena of rally raids. With the unveiling of their latest creation, the Dacia Sandrider, the brand is set to make waves in the Dakar Rally and the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC) from 2025 onwards.

The Dacia Sandrider boasts a no-nonsense, essentialist design that’s as stylish as it is functional. Inspired by the Manifesto concept car, this prototype is purpose-built for the grueling terrains of rally-raids. With a focus on performance and victory, the Sandrider features a streamlined exterior crafted for optimal aerodynamics. The carbon bodywork, reinforced subframe, and double wishbone suspension ensure durability and resilience in the face of extreme conditions.

Inside, Dacia’s cabin designers and engineers have prioritized the needs of both drivers and co-drivers. The modular dashboard allows for customization, ensuring comfort and convenience during long-distance races. Special attention has been given to details like the anti-bacterial fabric on the Sabelt seats and innovative storage solutions for onboard tools, reflecting Dacia’s commitment to practicality and functionality.

Dacia’s entry into motorsports isn’t just about performance; it’s also about sustainability. The Sandrider runs on synthetic fuel supplied by Aramco, offering a lower-carbon alternative without compromising power or efficiency. Engineers have worked tirelessly to reduce fuel consumption and enhance aerodynamics, resulting in a vehicle that’s both eco-friendly and competitive on the track.

Led by iconic and successful drivers, the Dacia Sandriders are poised to dominate the rally-raids with their unmatched skill and determination. Comprising three teams, each representing the spirit of Dacia, the Sandriders are ready to take on the toughest challenges the Dakar Rally and W2RC have to offer.

Cristina Gutierrez Herrero is a Spanish rally driver who has made a name for herself as one of the leading female figures in off-road rallying. With victories in the T3 category of the Rally-Raid World Cup and multiple Dakar Rally appearances under her belt, Cristina brings experience and expertise to the Sandriders. Co-driver Pablo Moreno Huete will join her.

Sébastien Loeb, a legend in the world of motorsport, is a nine-time World Rally Championship winner and one of the most successful drivers of all time. With his unparalleled skill behind the wheel, Sébastien is set to lead the charge for the Sandriders alongside co-driver Fabian Lurquin.

Nasser Al-Attiyah, hailing from Qatar, is a true Dakar legend with five victories to his name. With a remarkable record of success in cross-country rallying, Nasser brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the Sandriders, making him a formidable force on the track.

While the Dacia Sandrider is currently in the prototype stage, motorsport enthusiasts can expect to see it in action soon. The vehicle will undergo extensive development tests before making its debut at the Rallye du Maroc 2024. As for pricing and availability for consumers, Dacia has yet to release official details, but anticipation is high for a potential road-going version inspired by the Sandrider’s rugged performance and innovative design.
