2025 Mercedes-Benz G 580 | First All-Electric G-Class SUV

Mercedes-Benz, renowned for its luxury and innovation, is breaking new ground with the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G 580, the first all-electric production G-Wagen. The G 580 leverages the brand’s EQ Technology and is aimed at pushing boundaries while retaining the essence of luxury and performance that defines the G’s legacy.

Since its inception over four decades ago, the G-Wagen has captivated enthusiasts with its iconic design and off-road prowess. The G 580 continues this legacy, blending the classic square shape and robust proportions with advanced electric powertrain technology. Despite the shift towards electrification, Mercedes ensures that the electric G stays true to its roots, delivering the same legendary performance and capability that have made the G-Class a symbol of adventure and luxury.

Retaining its unmistakable silhouette, the G 580 boasts subtle design updates. It features a prominent grille with an integrated LED light band and rear ventilation slots for improved airflow. The SUV offers premium finishes and optional upgrades for personalization. Robust skid plates and advanced lighting technology ensure durability and visibility.

The interior of the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G 580 boasts premium materials such as leather upholstery, open-pore walnut trim, and Nappa leather. The cabin features modern technology, including the MBUX infotainment system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and voice assistant capabilities. The G 580 offers ample customization options to suit individual preferences, including temperature-controlled cup holders, wireless charging, rear-seat entertainment, and a Burmester 3D surround-sound system. Safety features include automatic emergency braking, route-based speed adaptation, and active lane-keeping assistance.

Underneath its rugged exterior lies a state-of-the-art electric powertrain that defines this generation’s G 580. The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G 580 is powered by a robust electric powertrain featuring four 145-horsepower electric motors—one at each wheel—for a total output of 579 horsepower and 859 lb-ft of torque. This setup enables the G 580 to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 4.6 seconds. The SUV’s top speed is electronically limited to 112 mph.

Equipped with a two-speed transmission and all-wheel drive, the G 580 delivers exceptional off-road capability and traction. It features selectable low-range gearing, enabling precise control and maneuverability in challenging terrain. The electric powertrain also allows for unique features such as the ‘G-Turn,’ which rotates the vehicle around its axis, and ‘G-Steering,’ which enhances turning radius on tight trails.

The G 580’s battery pack has a usable capacity of 116 kWh, providing an estimated range of 240 miles per charge. Charging capabilities include up to 200 kW on a DC fast charger, allowing for rapid charging from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 32 minutes.

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G 580 is expected to go into production in the second half of this year. While pricing details for the U.S. market are yet to be confirmed, European pricing hints at a starting point of around $180,000. For more information, please visit the official Mercedes-Benz website.
