Puma and BMW M Motorsport have released a limited-edition collaboration celebrating the legendary BMW Art Car series. The Art Car Collection by Alexander Calder is a tribute to Calder’s iconic BMW 3.0 CSL Art Car, which debuted at the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1975. This unique collection features a range of apparel and footwear designed to capture the bold and vibrant essence of Calder’s original creation.
The BMW Art Car series kicked off in 1975 when American sculptor Alexander Calder was asked by French auctioneer Hervé Poulain to transform a BMW 3.0 CSL race car into a piece of art. Calder’s colorful and dynamic design made a splash at the Le Mans race, even though Poulain didn’t win. This innovative project was the start of something special, turning race cars into canvases for artists like Andy Warhol and Jeff Koons. Calder’s car remains a standout, known for its fusion of art and automotive engineering.
The Puma x BMW M Motorsport Alexander Calder Art Car collection includes several standout pieces, including the BMW M Motorsport AC Shirt that features a bold, all-over print inspired by Calder’s signature color-blocking technique, as well as embroidered initials and logos, the relaxed-fit BMW M Motorsport AC Shorts, the BMW M Motorsport AC Tees in two designs made from a mix of recycled and reclaimed cotton, the BMW M Motorsport AC Cap, and the $110 Puma Suede Sneakers updated with Calder’s graphic embroidery, a BMW M Motorsport metal pin on the heel, and the number 93 debossed on the side.
The collection stands out for its high-quality materials and craftsmanship. The shirts and shorts are made from comfortable cotton, featuring a seersucker style for added texture. The T-shirts are crafted from a sustainable mix of 30% recycled and 70% reclaimed cotton. The sneakers, designed for both style and durability, feature double laces, a textile lining, and a sturdy rubber outsole.
The Art Car Collection by Alexander Calder from Puma and BMW M Motorsport is now available. Prices for this limited-edition collection range from $50 to $110. You can find these unique pieces at selected Puma stores and online at puma.com.
