A Danish coachbuilder, Kalmar Automotive debuted the Kalmar 9X9 at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering. Its latest creation blends design elements from the 959 with those of today’s 911 Turbo and GT3.
At the core of the 9×9 is the 993-series 911, stripped down and equipped with a hidden roll cage beneath CFD-honed carbon bodywork. The new panels and their 959-inspired rear end reportedly generate 3,263 pounds of peak downforce, 212 pounds above the coupe’s 3,051 claimed weight in its heaviest configuration.
The engine has been upgraded with a new intake system, ceramic bearings in the turbos, better cooling, and an Inconel exhaust. A custom double wishbone suspension with pushrod-style Tractive dampers in front further refines the drivetrain. The 9×9 rides on magnesium wheels on Michelin tires that have carbon ceramic rotors clamped by CarboBrake’s 3D-printed titanium calipers behind.
The interior focuses on lightweighting the vehicle and includes a centrally located analog tach with two small screens on the dashboard. No radios and central infotainment screens are present.
The Kalmar 9X9 is available in standard, Sport, and Leichtbau (Lightweight) variants. The standard 9X9 is a hi-po grand tourer with a 3.8-liter flat-six from the 911 Turbo S and Porsche’s seven-speed double-clutch transmission. It produces an incredible 930 horsepower, unlike the 640 horsepower produced in the factory version. Rear-wheel drive is the standard setup.
The 9X9 Sport has a turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six that makes 650 hp, 172 horses more than the factory 911 GTS. It includes a standard seven-speed manual, with PDK and rear-wheel steering available as options. The car’s lighter curb weight of 2,866 pounds heightens its sound and promises a more focused driving experience.
The 9X9 Leichtbau has a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter engine from the GT3 that produces 530 horsepower, 28 horses more than the factory output. This model is rear-driver only and has a seven-speed manual transmission, making it perfect for purists at just 2,811 pounds.
The Kalmar 9X9 can be purchased through U.S. distributor Canepa Group. Pricing for the vehicle is not available. For more details, visit the Kalmar Automotive website.
