Bugatti’s pursuit of speed and performance has solidified its place in automotive history with groundbreaking records. This was achieved by the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport World Record Edition, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse World Record Edition, and the Chiron Super Sport 300. Now, Bugatti has once again redefined speed limits as the W16 Mistral claims the title of the fastest open-top car, at 453.91 km/h.
The record-breaking run occurred on November 9th at Germany’s renowned ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg facility. Behind the wheel was Bugatti Pilote Officiel, Andy Wallace, the Le Mans 24 Hours winner. He warmed up the vehicle’s high-performance tires on a first anticipatory lap and ascended 200 km/h into the track’s banking. Andy unleashed the car’s full potential as the straight opened up coming off the banking, earning a top-record speed of 453.91 km/h at the end of the run.
The official confirmation of the new world top-speed record for an open-top car was done under the control of SGS-TÜV Saar GmbH. Esteemed guests and the CEO of Bugatti Rimac, Mate Rimac, the senior management team, and the project crew witnessed this historic moment. Additionally, for the first time, the owner of the W16 Mistral World Record Car was in attendance to witness the achievement firsthand. The owner also got to join Andy on another high-speed run following the world record attempt.
The W16 Mistral World Record Car joins the exclusive Singh Collection alongside the other Bugatti World Record Cars. Distinguished by its €14m price tag, the W16 Mistral World Record Car features distinctive ‘Jet Orange’ accents on the lower body and wheels, a color that nods to Bugatti’s previous record-setters. The vibrant orange is paired with a visible-black carbon exterior, while orange-accented features continue throughout the cabin. These design features immerse the driver in the triumph of the historic achievement.
With this latest triumph, Bugatti continues to define the pinnacle of automotive performance. According to Mate Rimac, CEO of Bugatti Rimac, ‘With the unparalleled achievement of the W16 Mistral World Record Car etched into the history books, we see history not just repeating itself, but new history made.’ For more details, visit Buggati’s website.
