2025 Volvo XC90 | Brand’s Award-Winning SUV Has Been A Sleeper For Years And It’s Ready To Put Everyone On Notice
Photos and Words by Atif Kazmi for Por Homme
Since landing on the scene in 2002, the Volvo XC90 has built up quite the following. To put into perspective, the Scandinavian SUV’s second generation model has quietly sold close to a million units since arriving back in 2015. I remember walking past the same one almost daily when I was working in Tribeca right around the time that one came out. When I eventually saw the owner getting into it one day, everything just made sense. She was stylish, confident and seemed to have life figured out. And while having it figured out in automotive terms is a moving target, there’s certainly no doubt the 2025 Volvo XC90 is as stylish and confident as it’s ever been. We recently took a trip to Copenhagen to experience the Gothenburg brand’s latest creation firsthand.
Refined Exterior Design
The 2025 Volvo XC90 is a natural evolution of an already great thing. Though its iconic design is largely intact, one current XC90 owner could not believe the level of presence this latest iteration commands. There’s no doubt that a reworked front fascia gives it sharper edges and a more commanding stance. The updated “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights bring just a bit more refinement and modernity. The XC90’s side profile is cleaner than ever before and new wheel designs help to bolster that even further.
XC90’s Cabin Is An Oasis
Step inside the XC90 and you’re met with a cozy, peaceful atmosphere. Even while rain came pouring down, the cabin and all its comforts made it feel more distant that it actually was. Nordic design sensibilities are on full display with a soft leather upholstery blending effortlessly with responsibly sourced wood trims and brushed metal accents. From that Orrefors crystal gear shifter to redesigned speaker grilles, it’s the small touches taking the new XC90 to new heights.
Making the XC90, Yours
There’s a Volvo XC90 configuration to meet just about any need. For a proper family hauler, you can opt for the seven-seat setup. You can go with the six-seat layout to get captain’s chairs in that second row and overall more balanced cabin experience for all. It’s great for long drives and can pack the perfect amount of passengers and property. Flat-fold seats and intuitive storage solutions make the XC90 practical yet refined for any occasion. Just a friendly reminder that Volvo does this in a package that doesn’t need an additional long-wheel option in the lineup.
Safety In Its Pedigree
Everything for the XC90 begins with safety and the countless awards its racked up on that front further the brand’s commitment to securing its passengers, now and well into the future. Volvo believes that the best way to stay safe on the road is to avoid collisions altogether. In order to do that, Volvo deploys a host of collision avoidance, collision mitigation and driver support technologies. Radars, ultrasonic sensors and cameras all work together at low and high speeds to make this the safest and smartest XC90 ever. Pilot Assist smooths out highway driving, while the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) now features Steer Assist to help avoid collisions before they happen. We luckily didn’t have to experience some of these firsthand but there’s peace of mind knowing the car’s tech is constantly working to protect you and your passengers.
For years, the Volvo XC90 has quietly carved its own lane in the luxury SUV world. Timeless design and industry-leading safety continue to be the brand’s North Star. With a refined exterior and a truly elevated interior, is the 2025 Volvo XC90 worth it? The answer is simply, yes.
