Words and photos by Atif Kazmi for Por Homme

A Maybach is unmistakably a Maybach. From Two-tone paint jobs to perfectly-fitted wheels and trimmings, it’s hard to mistake it for anything else on the road. And while the new 2025 Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 still delivers all of this and more, it’s doing so in a way that feels more grounded and understated than ever before. We got the opportunity to experience the ultra-luxury SUV firsthand, seeing if it lives up to the badge and heritage.

EQS 680’s Design

The EQS 680 is Benz’s first all-electric to get the Maybach badge. We see the signature Maybach grille being reimagined for this new era, and the final result is striking and confident. An upright Mercedes star adorns the hood, showcasing the brand’s legacy. Of course, the optional two-tone paintwork is a must while chrome accents further enhance its sophisticated presence, ensuring it stands out with understated elegance. Flush door handles and soft, flowing lines further this design theory with exclusive 21-inch wheels finish things off.

Executive First-Class Interior by Maybach

As expected, the Maybach EQS 680 features an interior that must be experienced. Step inside, and you’re met with an atmosphere that makes you forget you’re entering an SUV. The finest Nappa leather adorns the seats complimented by beautifully crafted wood inlays and polished metal accents. The EQS 680 is deliberate in every detail, from the handcrafted stitching to the Maybach-exclusive décor trims. For those looking to be driven versus doing the driving, this is the rear passenger experience. The executive-class seating is met with massage functions, heated and ventilated options, and even individual entertainment screens.

Effortless Power Meets Effortless Comfort

Underneath its refined exterior, the EQS 680 houses dual electric motors producing a commanding 649 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque. It glides from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds—not that it’s in a rush. Each mile passes with ease and confidence, offering an estimated 302 miles of range along the way. The standard AIRMATIC air suspension with adaptive damping ensures a ride that feels as smooth as silk, whether navigating city streets or escaping and going for a longer journey.

A Technological Showcase

At the heart of the EQS 680’s cockpit sits the expansive MBUX Hyperscreen—a 56-inch expanse of glass housing three seamlessly integrated displays. It’s intuitive, elegant, and effortlessly keeps driver and passengers connected. Rear-seat passengers enjoy their own screens, complete with individual controls for comfort and entertainment. Advanced driver-assistance systems like Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Evasive Steering Assist work quietly in the background, ensuring every journey is as safe as it is serene.

The 2025 Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 is about checking all the boxes and even create a few new ones along the way. Every detail, every material, and every whisper-quiet moment behind the wheel is aimed at shifting everything we’ve come to expect from automotive luxury.
