Beats Unveils The ‘Powerbeats Pro 2’ Earphones With Heart Rate Monitoring, Active-Noise Cancelling, And More

Beats has finally introduced the Powerbeats Pro 2 six years after debuting the first version. This new model has been redesigned from the ground up to create what the brand calls ‘the most impressive product in Beats’ history.’

The Powerbeats Pro 2 are more than just regular sports earphones; they take the earphone experience to a whole new level. A standout upgrade is the introduction of in-ear heart rate monitoring, a game-changer for athletes that provides real-time data on their performance. This technology utilizes LED optical sensors that measure flow over 100 times per second, similar to those found in the Apple Watch.

Another new upgrade includes active noise cancellation (ANC), which the brand claims is the best on the market. Also new is a highly responsive transparency mode, allowing users to stay aware of their surroundings, and adaptive EQ that adjusts the sound based on the environment.

The Powerbeat Pro 2 case also introduces wireless charging, a first for the brand. Despite being 33% smaller than the previous version, it provides up to 45 hours of battery life. The ear hook has also been redesigned to be 20% lighter, using nickel-titanium for enhanced flexibility, grip, and comfort.

The new earphones are powered by Apple’s H2 chip, which is also found in the AirPods Pro 2. In terms of durability, the buds have an IPX4 rating, making them sweat—and water-resistant but not waterproof. However, they are tough enough for training in the rain, snow, or heat.

Beats has partnered with leading fitness apps to enhance fitness tracking. These include Runna, Nike Run Club, Peloton, Open, Ladder, Slopes, and Yaoyao, with potential integrations in the future.

The Powerbeats Pro 2 is available in ‘Jet Black,’ ‘Quick Sand,’ ‘Hyper Purple,’ and ‘Electric Orange.’ Each pair comes with five ear tip sizes, ensuring it fits everyone perfectly. Priced at $249.99, the new Powerbeats Pro 2 is available now via the brand’s website and at Apple stores worldwide.
