Beretta Honors Marco Polo With A Bespoke SO6 EELL Sparviere Shotgun

Seven centuries after Marco Polo’s passing, Beretta pays tribute to the legendary explorer with a one-of-a-kind shotgun, the SO6 EELL Sparviere Marco Polo. This bespoke shotgun is part of Beretta’s annual one-off tradition where the firearm manufacturing company honors history’s greatest figures.

The legacy of Marco Polo is one of curiosity, courage, and drive to explore the unknown. His journey bridged continents and started the Age of Exploration. That same spirit of discovery is immortalized in the SO6 EELL Sparviere Marco Polo, a firearm that blends artistry, heritage, and craftsmanship.

The 12-gauge over-and-under shotgun took over 2000 hours of craftsmanship and months of study to develop. The receiver features several elements inspired by sailing and exploring, such as compass roses, maritime motifs, and a copper-inlaid pattern with stars and diamonds depicting the Venetian explorer’s journey.  Details about Marco Polo’s history are also engraved, including a copper medallion chiseled with his profile and small figures of his departure on horse and return by sea.

A silver-inlaid winged Lion, the symbol of Venice, adorns the top lever, while a fretter key represents Marco Polo’s sheep. The trigger guard bears the anniversary years alongside a Dragon symbolizing China. The left side plate depicts his hometown, while the right has the Mongolian steppes engraved, representing his exploration of Asia. The shotgun also contains a dedicated serial number, MARCOPOLO7, on the receiver tang, while the forend release button has a Chinese inscription translating to ‘Uniting Europe and Asia as two parts of a single gem.’

Other remarkable details on the gun include the blued Steelium Optimabore HP barrels and grade 5 walnut wood that is finished with around 80 layers of Tru-Oil. The wood’s Scottish checkering resembles the diamond pattern on the metalwork.

Completing the masterpiece is a custom handcrafted gun case in the PB Selection Atelier, featuring bright yellow leather with a digital print of a medieval map of the world as known in Marco Polo’s time. Blue leather accents on the edges and handles contrast beautifully with the Venetian red silk interior with golden rose motifs.

Like all of Beretta’s one-offs, the shotgun ties into the brand’s history. Venice, Marco Polo’s hometown, is also where Beretta discovered a 1526 invoice proving its legacy as the world’s oldest firearms manufacturer, allowing the brand to celebrate its 500th anniversary in 2026.

Beretta transformed the SO Sparviere to create a true masterpiece showcasing the brand’s commitment to pushing boundaries, which is evident through the intricate engravings and the unique side plates that open like bird wings. The shotgun is presented in an exclusive display case made of extra-clear 8mm tempered and hand-engraved glass. For more details, visit the brand’s website.
