Ahead of this month’s New York International Auto Show, Genesis took the covers off Genesis Magma Racing (GMR), the official motorsport program of the Korean automaker. The unveiling of its GMR-001 Hypercar came with its full team visual identity, including livery and race suits. The team will make its debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2026 and the IMSA SportsCar Championship in 2027.
A leap into motorsports is arguably the most ambitious Genesis has done in its 10-year history and there’s no doubt they’ve taken some risk over this time. GMR-001 builds on Genesis’ ‘Athletic Elegance’ design language with livery that merges Korean heritage with motorsport innovation. The distinctive livery flows from vibrant Magma orange at the front to deep red at the rear, resembling Korea’s vibrant energy, the temperature of a high-performance engine, and the acoustic shift of the Doppler effect. Korean Hangeul lettering for ‘Magma’ is also discreetly embedded within the design.
Inspiration for the GMR-001 comes from the brand’s Magma performance line-up and combines aerodynamic performance with sculptural design. Signature Two-Line lighting emphasizes its aggressive silhouette and aerodynamic intent.
The hypercar’s bodywork features a Parabolic Line that sweeps along the side profile. The car’s body integrates performance-driven features like a flat underbody for aerodynamic efficiency and heat extraction inlets for optimal thermal performance. An advanced hybrid powertrain and chassis promise to deliver competitive performance and speed.
The official GMR team’s race suits carry over Genesis’ Two-Line motif with G-matrix graphics visually linking the drivers to the car and the brand. Driving the team forward are elite racers, including three-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner André Lotterer and Luis ‘Pipo’ Derani, a four-time victor at the 12 Hours of Sebring. Both were in attendance for the unveiling alongside racing legend Jacky Ickx.
GMR has already begun with an LMP2 entry in the 2025 European Le Mans Series (ELMS) featuring drivers Jamie Chadwick and Mathys Jaubert from the Genesis Magma Racing Trajectory Program, alongside Daniel Juncadella. The team claimed a sensational win at the season opener in Barcelona. The ELMS entry and Trajectory program mark the beginning of GMR racing.
The GMR-001 Hypercar will be on display at the Genesis booth during the 2025 New York International Auto Show, which is taking place now at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. For more details, visit the brand’s website.
