Now Open | Silver Lining Opticians at 92 Thompson Street

Our favorite eyewear boutique just got a bit roomier. New York City’s Silver Lining Opticians has moved a few doors down to a more roomier, more lavish local while keeping intact everything we’ve come to love from the shop. Expect to see plenty of hard-to-find vintage pieces alongside modern classics. They’ve got their own line out in full force as well which is definitely worth check out. We’ve always felt that the shop is one of the city’s hidden gems, but their following has grown substantially since they first opened up in 2007. Being the gracious hosts owners Erik Sacher and Jordan Silver are, it’s only right they accommodate.

Stop by the new boutique at 92 Thompson Street to see what all the buzz is about.

Cutler & Gross Sunglasses [S/S 2010]

Cutler & Gross Sunglasses [S/S 2010]

Cutler & Gross is undoubtedly one of the UK’s most respected and sought after eyewear brands, albeit there aren’t many that come to mind. The competition must have noticed the detail and quality of C&G frames and realized it’s just too difficult playing catchup, especially when these Brits keep reinventing themselves whenever any one even thinks to come closer. Blackbird in Seattle has just taken stock of some great sunglasses from Cutler & Gross, bringing to us the 0772 frame in array of finishes.

All are available now at Blackbird for $410 each.

Persol 0714 Folding Sunglasses

Persol 0714 Folding Sunglasses

The Persol 0714s are the folding version of the classic 0649, which was developed in 1957 for tram drivers in Turin who needed large glasses to protect their eyes from dust. They were most famously worn by Steve McQueen for most of his life. The frames are hand made in Italy from Italian materials and feature Persol’s trademark ‘Meflecto’ system and 3-notch-bridge for flexibility and comfort. The frames are fitted with crystal glass lenses and the unmistakeable ‘Supreme Arrow’ detail at arm hinges.

Cutler and Gross 0913 Black Frames

Cutler and Gross 0913 Black Acetate Frames

Graham Cutler and Tony Gross founded Cutler and Gross over four decades ago when they opened their first shop in London’s Knightsbridge. Now, the duo’s timeless pieces are recognized throughout the world. We’ve personally been fans for quite sometime and love the simplicity and originality the label brings to the table. The 0913 frames are a great example of what Cutler and Gross can deliver. The acetate frames are really unique, as we have yet to see such a seamless blend of new= and old-school design. There’s no logo, and they don’t need one; the designs speak for themselves.

Essential: Moscot Miltzen Tortoise Sunglasses

Essential: Moscot Miltzen Tortoise Sunglasses

This season, we recommend you ditch your black frames and opt for turtle shell instead. Moscot‘s Miltzen frame is a great choice. The round, full-view shape, eponymously named after a family uncle, is clean, smart and fastidious. First introduced in the 1930’s, the frame with the longest lineage is sleek and understated just like the powerful outsiders who made the frames famous — think Andy Warhol, John Lennon, Harry Truman and Gandhi, to name a few.
