Ralph Lauren Sporting Watch With Elm Burl Wood Dial

The Ralph Lauren Sporting Watch With Elm Burl Wood Dial

We ourselves take inspiration from our environment and the many things around us and I bet if one of my most-prized possessions was a 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic coupe, my creative juices would consistently flow like the Nile. The good folks at Hodinkee have an exclusive look at the all-new Ralph Lauren Sporting Watch and boy is it an eye-popper. Much inspiration is pulled from the aforementioned Bugatti 57SC such as the outer dial of the RL Sporting Watch which is made from elm burl, the same type of wood found on the dash of Lauren’s Bugatti. The watch also features a matte black galvanic dial that, just like the gages on the Atlantic coupe, feature Arabic numerals for increased legibility. No detail was spared when crafting this innovative timepiece.

The RL Sporting Watch features a sapphire exhibition caseback allowing full viewing of the RL Caliber RL98295, which happens to be made by IWC. Legit? We think so, but for more information on this timepiece including pricing, head over to Hodinkee.

The Timepiece | Versace “Business” Watch

The Timepiece | Versace "Business" WatchThe Timepiece | Versace "Business" Watch

We recently got turned to the “Business” timepiece from Versace, and were pretty impressed. I personally don’t wear gold often but when you put it on a chocolate brown deployment claspset leather strap, not sure how you can go wrong. The white dial with the Medusa logo decorated with a chequered pattern is definitely a good look and works well inside the 43 mm rose gold round case. If you’re not digging this combination, there’s a stainless steel variety with black dial as well.

On the inside is a La Joux- Perret 3513 automatic Swiss movement which can be seen through the clear caseback. The Big Date display at 12 o’clock, the Power Reserve indicator and the Roman numerals complete the face of the new timepiece.

“Business” has been limited to 500 pieces, which when priced at $2,200 each, will surely fly out the door.

Bell & Ross | Vintage Officer Watch

Bell & Ross | Vintage Officer Watch

We turned you to the Bell & Ross Vintage Collection when it was first announced back in June but now the iconic watchmaker is adding a new watch to the mix. For anyone not familiar, the Bell & Ross Vintage Collection was designed as an homage to the aviators of the 1940’s, who were the first pros to use the wristwatch as a tool on their missions. The Vintage Officer watch is a continuation of the collection and gives these professional instruments an elegant appearance. The finish is flawless and reminds us once again that attention is paid to every detail when producing standout timepieces.

Like the other pieces in the Vintage Collection, the Vintage Officer will also be available in a choice two quality Swiss movements: an hours, minutes and seconds version (BR 123) and a chronograph version (BR 126). Furthermore, buyers will be able to choose from a black dial with black alligator strap or a silver dial with gray alligator strap.

Also, the Bell & Ross online boutique we announced last December is now open for business to US customers. Go see if you can pick the pieces from the Vintage Collection on there.

Watches | Timex Originals Collection

Watches | Timex Originals Collection

Benjamin Clymer, Editor-in-Chief over at Hodinkee, was recently invited to Timex headquarters in Waterbury, NY to dig into the iconic watchmaker’s archives. To us, the invite and visit are epic on several scales. Ben appreciates the history of watchmaking and we’re glad to see him get this opportunity. This also shows the willingness of a historic brand like Timex to open its vault, something we seldom see these days. The brand is far removed from its humble Waterbury Clock Company beginnings back in 1854 but the hard work and dedication put into their original Yankee Pocketwatch is still seen in its most current models today.

Timex is also introducing The Timex Originals collection, a new line of timepieces inspired by some of the brand’s most notable watches.

Watch the video after the jump and be sure to visit Hodinkee to check out the full scoop on Timex Originals. Hodinkee is also going to be giving a few of these pieces away so get over there and find out how you can get your hands on one.

Bell & Ross BR 01 COMPASS [Limited Edition]

Bell & Ross BR 01 COMPASS [Limited Edition]

Swiss watchmaker Bell & Ross looked to the cockpit of an airplane when digging for inspiration for their latest creation. The result is the BR 01 Compass, a timepiece which shows time similar to how the navigation instrument is shows direction. The time on the BR 01 Compass is displayed by a fixed mark under which the hours and minute numbers file past. The lower tinted window reveals the full rotation of the discs. This watch is special, as it offers a totally new display and goes against the flow of traditional time telling.

The BR 01 Compass will be limited to only 500 pieces, so don’t expect it to be available for much longer.

Bell & Ross: The Vintage Original and Heritage Lines

Bell & Ross: The Vintage Original and Heritage Lines

Bell & Ross pay homage to the aviators of the 1940’s with the release of their Vintage Original and Vintage Heritage lines. With the choice of two Swiss movements — automatic hours, minutes and seconds version (BR 123) and a chronograph version (BR 126) — how can you go wrong? The Vintage Original line pulls from watches worn by aviators in the 1940’s and is available in a black or beige dial variety.

The Vintage Heritage line will surely be the one turning our heads as the natural leather strap works well with the matte-black case. The beige-colored hands prove Bell & Ross’s ability to deliver with such great attention to detail.
