GANT Rugger Opens Venice, California Store

GANT has finally opened the doors to its first West Coast store, as they look to call Venice their new home. The space is 1,700 square feet and was designed as a GANT Rugger neighbor shop so it has all the personal touches. To add to the appeal, local Venice Beach craftsman, Eric Gustafson, was commissioned to create several modern fixtures for the shop made from brass, wood, and inlaid tile. Additional fixtures include several 1950’s teak pieces and other mid century elements.

The trip west is long overdue in our opinion as Los Angeles has been a top market for GANT for quite sometime. The shop will carry GANT Rugger and GANT by Michael Bastian men’s and women’s collections. More looks at the shop below.

NYFW | GANT by Michael Bastian Fall/Winter 2011 Presentation

We had the opportunity to check out the GANT by Michael Bastian Fall 2011 collection in person last week at New York Fashion Week and have to say we were thoroughly impressed. The gifted designer took much inspiration from a weekend getaway in a small cabin in a Nordic forest, blanketed in snow and isolated from the rest of the world. The result is a tremendously curated lineup, which infuses American heritage with the brand’s Scandinavian roots.

Key pieces include waffle knit thermals, patched and mended Shetland sweaters, ski and tracking-influenced outerwear, as well as washed cotton moleskin, corduroy and flannel tailored pants and other clothing.

NYFW | GANT by Michael Bastian Spring/Summer 2011

The Spring 2011 season will bring us the second collaborative effort between iconic label GANT and New York-based designer Michael Bastian. If you thought Bastian’s skill shined in the brand’s Fall 2010 collection, then you haven’t seen anything yet. We were on hand for the S/S 2011 presentation and seeing the pieces first-hand really made us appreciate Bastian’s work as well as GANT’s longstanding history in the menswear spectrum. Their “rebirth” of the past few years really has brought some great pieces to light and bringing Michael Bastian on-board reinforces the brand’s current initiatives.

Spring 2011 will bring us plenty of hot items from seersucker suiting to madras blazers and chambray shirting. You can see Michael’s dedication to craftsman as no detail is spared. Many of the pieces are remakes of classics from GANT’s archives with modern enhancements. The line itself delivers a pretty vast range as there’s casual gear alongside more formal wear, giving us a full gambit of items to add to our spring arsenal. Also, the eyewear’s all GANT by Michael Bastian and some the frames are just remarkable.

The spring will also deliver GANT’s first women’s line and we really think it will be well received once it drops. Our female readers (we know you’re out there) should definitely check it out and hit us back with some feedback.
