Maserati launched a limited edition series of MC20 supercars, “Icona” and “Leggenda,” as a tribute to the 20th anniversary of the timeless MC12. The MC12 is famous for bringing Maserati back into the racing world in 2004 after almost four decades away from the racing circuit. The look, speed, and legacies of the MC12s are the inspirations behind the MC20 supercars.
Only 20 units of each supercar will be released.
MC20 Icona Exterior and Inspirations
The look and feel of the MC20 Icona will remind fans of the iconic MC12 Stradale’s design, a white and blue exterior. The white and blue exterior of the MC12 predecessor was also a tribute to another iconic car, the Maserati Trofeo Light, when it ran for 24 hours at Daytona. The MC20 Icona’s exterior boasts different Fuoriserie design elements, adding personalization to the vehicle’s look. Upon inspection, you’ll find the Maserati Fuoriserie logo in the Bianco Audace on the side of the car and an Italian flag under the MC20 lettering.
The Hubcaps of the MC20 Icona are silver, finished with the signature trident logo, and found in the middle of its chrome-plated wheels. The brake calipers are colored blue, and the mirrors of the “Icona” have an auto-dim feature.
MC20 Leggenda Exterior and Inspirations
The colors featured on the exterior of the MC20 Leggenda are reminiscent of the Vitaphone Racing livery featured on the exterior of the MC12 GT1. The car has been famous after accomplishing the feat of winning three victories and claiming two runner-ups.
Like the other MC20 special edition, the “Leggenda” boasts Fuoriserie features, such as trident wheels and hubcaps. It also has a yellow trident on the grille and doors, with black brake calipers.
MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda Interior and Beyond
The Fuoriserie package of the supercars also gives it a complete racing interior. The racing seats with 4-way adjustment are integrated into the chassis, and are in either Nero or Blu on a silver background for the “Icona” and only Blu on a silver background for the “Leggenda.” The headrests of the MC20s have embroidered wordings of either “Icona” or “Leggenda.”
The interior of both the MC20s includes the carbon fiber package and a sophisticated Sonus Faber System. The Sonus Faber System is a set of different speakers under the brand of Sonus Faber.
The Icona and the Leggenda also have electronic limited-slip for their differential, lifters with suspension, path systems for blind stops and rear crosses, and mats in the front and boot.
MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda Engine
All the MC20 supercars feature the 3-liter V6 Nettuno engine, which is twin-turbocharged. The engine has an eight-speed, dual-clutch transmission. The engine is a rear-wheel drive with a mid-mounted placement, which puts it in front of the rear axle and behind the front axle.
Each V6 Nettuno engine of the “Icona” and “Leggenda” is badged with either “ICONA. UNA DI 20” or “LEGGENDA. UNA DI 20,” signifying that there are only 20 units for each in the world.
The Legacy Represented by MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda
The supercars celebrate the 20th anniversary of the return of the trident on the racing scene. Within the three years when it raced, the MC12 GT1 brought home 27 victories from the FIA GT Championships, keeping its name three times in the honor roll of the 24 Hours of Spa.
The MC12 Stradale remains the fastest car Maserati has produced, which recorded a top speed of 330km/h, which accelerated from stop to 100 in just 3.8 seconds. The “Stradale” was designed by Giorgetto Giugario. The supercar kickstarted Maserati’s racing performance with its 12-cylinder engine derived from the Ferrari, with only 50 models made.
The MC20 supercars, “Icona” and “Leggenda,” pay tribute to the legacy left behind by their MC12 predecessors, and shall continue to bring greatness to the brand.
