Monocle | The First Five Years

Monocle | The First Five Years Video

Five years ago Monocle hit the newsstands. Today it’s at the heart of a very modern media company – but also one with some old-school values. The publication has evolved from having nineteen employees to over seventy now and representation in over 100 countries. The type of work they do ranges from print to video to radio. Yes, radio. Monocle also launched a television series on Bloomberg TV. Their reach is far and wide and the content is as rich and newsworthy in its 51st issues as it was back in issue 2007 when issue No. 1 hit newsstands. Here is a film that chronicles the first five years.

Monocle x B YOSHIDA Magazine Strap by Porter

Monocle and Porter are at it again, this time with some help from BEAMS’ B YOSHIDA, to create canvas magazine strap. The accessory looks to help folks keep their books or mags neatly packed together during their commute to wherever they’re heading. As the magazine industry’s not-so-slow and slightly-painful death nears, Monocle hopes to continue their success, and we think this item’s meant to be more symbolic than anything.

Tyler Brûlé has a great thing going on over at Monocle. The magazine’s been dishing out top-notch content in an array of mediums since February 2007. J.Crew recognized this and decided to get the team to try on the label’s Spring 2010 collection while also delivering an interesting Q&A session that covered a gambit of topics.

The pieces are set to hit stores on March 10th, and if you walk into any J.Crew shop now, you can pick up the catalog that features the products and the men. For the interviews, go here. Men of Monocle after the jump.
