Motorlux 2023 Kickstarts Monterey Car Week With Food, Jets, and Themed Installations

Motorlux, the opening celebration for Monterey Car Week 2023, returned to the Monterey Jet Center for the 32nd time. The party featured curated automotive-themed culinary pairings, 200 automobiles, over a dozen aircraft, 30 farm-to-table culinary stations, and so much more.

In an evolution from previous years, The Monterey Jet Center was divided into four display areas. Each area showcased countless cars with theme-aligned, locally-sourced food and drinks. The Tokyo Night Market section featured cars like the Built by Legends 1995 R33 Nissan Skyline GT-R. Meanwhile, Frank Vessels BFG Blazer headlined the Legends of Baja section and the Cars of the Mille section included the 1957 Kurtis 500x ‘El Caballo II. The fourth section, RADwood, featured cars from the ’80s and ’90s, including an ACR-customized Viper GTS. Beyond this, the event played host to a range of classics, modern exotics, and everything in between.

A Ferrari F40 and F50 had plenty of folks’ attention as did a red Porsche 959 and BMW Alpina 3.0 CSL. Inside the hangar played host to a purple Ford GT alongside aerial hoop contortionists.

Of course, the aircraft tours are always a hit at Motorlux and this year was no different. This list included helicopters from Bell Textron, a HondaJet Elite II, the PC-24 Jet and PC-12 NGX from Pilatus and the SR22T from Cirrus.

The Broad Arrow RADIUS auction was at Motorlux again this year, with a bevy of automobiles up for viewing and auction. Bringing an auction back to Motorlux continues to feel like the perfect marriage. Among the lots available will be a 2007 Porsche RS Spyder Evo, a 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO, a 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 Concept Car, a 1911 Peugeot Type BP1 Bebe, and a special collection from the Academy of Art. The cars will be displayed at Motorlux before the auction scheduled for Thursday, August 17th, and Friday, August 18th.

The CHP 11-99 Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to helping families of California Highway Patrol officers in times of need, is one of this year’s beneficiaries. They had a Ford Mustang Dark Horse on display car, which was given out as a raffle item.
