2025 Ford Mustang GTD | $300K Street-Legal and Track-Ready Supercar Wonders Why Germans Have All The Fun

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD, unveiled at the recently concluded Monterey Car Week, is the latest incarnation of the Mustang from the Michigan-based car manufacturer. The GTD is a race car built for the road. It takes the Mustang GT3 racing technology and wraps it in a carbon fiber Mustang shell that is aimed at running a sub-7-minute lap time around the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The Mustang GTD was born from the concept of the Mustang GT3 race car that will be racing in Le Mans next year. Unhindered by track regulations, the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD features a lightweight carbon fiber shell, active aerodynamics, carbon fiber front splitter, vented hood and fenders, optional C-pillar mounted hydraulically controlled active rear wing, 12.8” front tires, and 13.6” wide rear tires mounted on 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, or available forged magnesium wheels and Brembo carbon ceramic brakes. There will be an aero package option that has a carbon fiber underbody aerodynamic tray and hydraulically controlled front flaps. Personalization options include an array of exterior paint schemes, with the option to color-match to a customer-provided sample.

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD cockpit interior gets the premium treatment with Miko suede, leather and carbon fiber detailing, several interior color combinations, RECARO seats, personalized driving modes, optional 3D-printed titanium paddle shifters, rotary dial shifter and serial plate repurposed from retired Lockheed Martin F-22 titanium parts. In place of a trunk, the GTD has a race-inspired cover that houses the semi-active suspension, a hydraulic control system, and a transaxle cooling system.

The new Mustang GTD runs on a purpose-developed supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine with dual air inlets. The power is coursed through a carbon fiber driveshaft connected to an 8-speed rear transaxle that delivers 800 hp and rev to a 7,500 rpm redline. It also features an adaptive spool valve damper technology with hydraulically actuated dual spring rate and height suspension, a dry-sump engine oil system, short-long arm front suspension, a link pushrod and rocker arm rear suspension architecture, and an optional titanium active valve exhaust system.

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is expected to begin its limited production run at the Ford Flat Rock Assembly Plant and continue at the Multimatic facilities in Markham, Canada. The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is projected to be available in late 2024 to early 2025, and pricing is expected to begin at approximately $300,000 MSRP.
