The 2024 Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid stands as a testament to opulence and innovation. Emerging as a unique offering in the ultra-luxury segment, this hybrid sedan intertwines elegance with eco-consciousness while offering a glimpse into the future of automotive engineering.
Rooted in the early 1960s, the Flying Spur name has long been synonymous with luxury and sophistication, evolving from its origins as a variant of the Bentley Continental. Bid farewell to the Mulsanne a couple years back and the Flying Spur is now the lone touring sedan in the British brand’s stable. Now in its third generation, the 2024 Flying Spur builds upon its legacy, incorporating advancements in design, technology, and performance.
This year’s Flying Spur has gone hybrid and it may be better for it. Though the iconic W12 will be missed, there’s a balance that Bentley’s hybrid powertrain strikes. There’s enough electric-only range to get you through the city and plenty of combined range for a pretty substantial road trip. Our time was spent with a Flying Spur Hybrid Odyssean Edition, a trim that works in more sustainable cabin materials like tweed and open pore veneers. Remnants of the EXP 100 GT concept car can be seen throughout as the British automaker brings to reality its vision for the next 100 years.
Crafted with precision and finesse, the exterior of the 2024 Bentley Flying Spur exudes elegance and athleticism. From its sleek proportions to its distinctive Flying B emblem, every detail speaks to the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship. The Blackline Specification, available as standard, adds a touch of sophistication with blacked-out trims and accents.
With a meticulous attention to detail, every surface speaks luxury, from the sumptuous leather upholstery to the handcrafted wood veneers. The centerpiece of the cabin is a rotating display that we came to love in the latest-generation Continental GT, seamlessly transitioning between an infotainment screen and analogue gauges, combining form and function with effortless elegance. Multi-comfort seat adjustments pamper passengers with heated, cooling, and massage capabilities, ensuring a bespoke experience tailored to individual preferences. State-of-the-art technology abounds, with features like a head-up display, customizable instrument cluster, and Wi-Fi hotspot, keeping occupants connected and informed on every journey.
A Hybrid Touring Sedan
The powertrain of the 2024 Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid is a blend of performance and efficiency. This formidable power is transmitted to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, ensuring smooth and responsive acceleration in any driving scenario. With a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 177 mph, the Flying Spur Hybrid offers exhilarating performance without compromising on fuel economy, boasting an impressive 46 MPG combined rating.
Having experienced the W12 and V8 variants over the past few years, the Flying Spur Hybrid delivers a unique driving experience. It’s not as powerful as the W12 or as nimble as the V8, but it’s certainly carved out its own experience.
