The New Balance 1000, a classic from the late 1990s, is making a comeback in 2024 with a modern twist. Teaming up with the trendy New York brand Aimé Leon Dore (ALD), New Balance aims to win over sneaker enthusiasts by blending nostalgic vibes with contemporary style.
First launched in 1999, the New Balance 1000 initially slipped under the radar despite fitting right into the chunky, practical sneaker trend of the time. It gained some recognition through an early running ad, but it wasn’t until its 25th anniversary that New Balance injected new life into the model with some high-profile collaborations.
New Balance kicked off the 2024 revival of the 1000 model with a collaboration with Chicago designer Joe Freshgoods. Following that, Aimé Leon Dore’s founder, Teddy Santis, teased two new versions: a clean white and silver model and a bold black patent leather version.
The white and silver Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 1000 sneaker is a stylish mix of old-school and modern elements. It features a see-through ‘N’ logo on the side, soft gray overlays, and ALD branding on the tongue and forefoot. The mesh base, layered design, perforated toe box, translucent lacelets, and roped laces with a hiking-inspired pattern add a rugged touch.
The black patent leather version stands out with its glossy, high-fashion look. It sports shiny patent leather overlays, white ‘Aimé’ branding near the toe, reflective contrast stitching that adds contrast, and a mesh base that keeps it comfortable and breathable. This model channels late ’90s style with a fresh, street-ready twist.
Although the exact release dates for the Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 1000 sneakers haven’t been announced yet, they’re expected to drop soon.
