BIRKENSTOCK Celebrates 60 Years Of The ZÜRICH Sandal With A Limited Anniversary Collection

BIRKENSTOCK pays tribute to its closed sandal ZÜRICH for the 60th anniversary of the iconic model. The limited-edition release features the sandal in four archival styles in the original BIRKENSTOCK footbed.

The ZÜRICH  is the second sandal with a built-in footbed designed by Karl Birkenstock. This unisex shoe is a timeless classic and embodies BIRKENSTOCK footwear’s quality, function, and support. It is perfect for everyday walking as it prevents unnatural pressure points from the heel to the toe and supports the foot’s arch. Moreover, its soft and subtle leather provides a comfortable feel.

When the ZÜRICH sandal was first introduced in 1964, it gained popularity because of its comprehensive upper, natural materials, twin buckle straps, amazing footbed experience, and unisex design. It offered a secure fit for indoor and outdoor wear and embodied Karl Birkenstock’s clear design language. Through the years, BIRKENSTOCK introduced three different versions of the ZÜRICH sandal, and the new release continues to evolve the model while honoring its history.

The limited anniversary edition replicates the premium leather uppers, buckles, and soles from the original 1964 design. It also includes a soft suede upper without embossing to retain its classic appeal. Moreover, the traditional BIRKENSTOCK stamp is present on the anatomically shaped cork-latex footbed, which is a further nod to the sandal’s heritage.

The ZÜRICH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION will be available on the BIRKENSTOCK website from August 29th in four selected archive-inspired colorways (Dark Red, Dark Green, Light Blue, and Light Green). This special collection celebrates ZÜRICH’s legacy of functionality and classic appeal.
