MB&F Unveils SP One Timepiece With Gravity-Defying Display In A Refined 38mm Case

MB&F unveils its latest 38mm elegant timepiece, the SP One, initially code-named ‘Three Circles.’ It features three floating elements – the barrel, balance wheel, and dial, creating an illusion of weightlessness. Each element appears to defy gravity thanks to the sapphire glass on both the front and back.

The watch is encased in a smooth, bezel-free pebble-shaped case with detached lugs. Its 38 mm case size makes it MB&F’s smallest watch to date. Positioned between the brand’s bold Horological Machines and classic Legacy Machines, the SP One launches the new ‘Special Projects’ collection.

The movement’s architecture of the SP One embraces a minimalist approach, which enhances the levitation effect. The bridges and screws are practically invisible as well as most of the other components, which are hidden under the three core elements. The balance wheel, positioned at 2 o’clock, captivates with its steady oscillation, while the tilted dial highlights MB&F’s use of conical gearing.

Surrounding the movement is the ‘amphitheatre,’ a bevelled flange inspired by the grandeur of Greco-Roman theatres. The back of the watch is equally stunning, revealing the meticulous hand finishing and attention to detail that MB&F is known for. The SP One is powered by MB&F’s in-house movement, offering 72 hours of power reserve.

The SP One’s first sketch was made in 2018 and was later refined in collaboration with famous watch designer and longtime MB&F Friend Eric Giroud. It is a timepiece that whispers classical elegance instead of shouting for attention, setting it apart from the usual bold MB&F timepieces.

MB&F’s SP One watch is available in platinum with a sky-blue bevelled flange and rose gold with an anthracite bevelled flange. The platinum version retails for CHF 63’000 while the rose gold version retails for CHF 58’000 (excluding taxes). For more details, visit the brand’s website.
