BMW Skytop Concept Car Debuts At Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este

BMW unveiled the BMW Skytop Concept Car at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como. This luxurious open two-seater pays tribute to BMW’s iconic models of the past.

The BMW Skytop Concept Car is a modern homage to classic BMW models like the BMW Z8 and BMW 503. These cars are known for their elegant design and outstanding performance, a tradition that the Skytop proudly continues. Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design, describes the Skytop as ‘a truly unique and exotic design’ that embodies the Concorso d’Eleganza legacy of combining stunning looks with fine-tuned driving dynamics.

The Skytop’s exterior showcases athletic proportions and a muscular stance highlighted by sleek surfaces and sharp lines. It features illuminated kidney grilles, integrated winglets instead of traditional door handles, light alloy wheels, and a pronounced line running from the hood to the tailgate.

Inside, the cabin features leather-finished roll-over bars, a fully retractable rear window, and removable leather roof parts that can be easily stored in the trunk. The color scheme transitions from a warm reddish-brown roof to a muted silver exterior with a chrome shadow effect crafted by a master painter. The brogue-style leather surfaces and crystal applications in the cockpit elevate the sense of luxury and space.

Under the hood, the BMW Skytop Concept Car shares engine options with the BMW Z8, featuring BMW’s most powerful V8 engine, likely borrowing from the M8 Competition’s 617-horsepower 4.4-liter V8 and eight-speed automatic transmission, paired with an advanced all-wheel-drive system.

Although the Skytop is a showstopper at the Concorso d’Eleganza, its production future remains uncertain. For more information, please visit the official BMW website.
