HODINKEE x Audemars Piguet SIHH 2011 Trunk Show, NYC

Last week, HODINKEE and Audemars Piguet hosted an event at the Swiss watchmaker’s New York City boutique on 57th. On display were some of the brand’s finest timepieces, including those unveiled at this year’s SIHH in Geneva just two months ago. The Millenary Minute Repeater in Titanium, which we covered here, was on hand as were several of the brand’s grand complication pieces. It’s not a HODINKEE party without vintage pieces, folks and there were some gems pulls right from the AP museum in Le Brassus, Switzerland.

The Want | Seagull 1963 Chronograph

The Want | Seagull 1963 Chronograph

King of the blogosphere Michael Williams turns us to this gem he recently came across during his last trip to Vegas. It’s supposedly a reproduction Chinese pilot’s watch from the ’60s and the detailing is really worth checking out. Notice the Chinese Star as well as the other markings on the dial. There were roughly 1,400 watches made exclusively for the Chinese Air Force. It’s got an automatic movement with a 40 hour power reserve, is made in China and comes with a steel back but add $35 for a crystal back.

Inside Look | The IWC Watch Factory in Switzerland

Inside Look | The IWC Watch Factory in Switzerland

Who doesn’t like a good field trip? Michael from ACL gives us a tour of the IWC Watch Factory in Switzerland. Why’s this relevant, you ask? I think alot of people don’t know what actually goes into making watch as timeless as an IWC. The Swiss watchmaker has invested alot to maintain a modern and clean environment for the watch makers and it certainly pays dividends. The time and dedication put into each IWC watch is unmeasurable. With these shots, MW gives us insight into something we normally wouldn’t be able to experience so definitely peep the imagery.

Oh, and in case you didn’t hear, they’ve launched a new website and it is as carefully crafted as anything produced by IWC.

Garbstore x G-Shock GA-100 Watch

Garbstore x G-Shock GA-100 Watch

We peeped this watch at last year’s (capsule) show and have been dreaming about it since. Yes, we know it’s a G-Shock but the detailing is impeccable and collaborative efforts like this one with Garbstore are worth mentioning. The timepiece features a black-on-black face with a green printed check strap and also comes with a premium leather zip case made by The Heritage Belt Company of England.

Uniform Wares | 300 series Chronograph Wristwatch

Uniform Wares | 300 series Chronograph Wristwatch

Uniform Wares continues deliver well crafted timepieces which highlight their minimalistic design approach. The 300 series happens to be the British brand’s first-ever chronograph watch and we’re really impressed with the offering. The watch looks great on the wrist, and for the spring and summer seasons ahead, we’re really digging this specific finish which features a satin brushed finish with a tan strap made from Italian leather.

Bremont P-51 Limited Edition Chronograph

Bremont P-51 Limited Edition Chronograph

Hodinkee done did it again with a first look at British watchmaker Bremont’s latest creation, the P-51 Limited Edition chronograph watch. The company’s known for their aviation-themed timepieces but this beauty really takes things to a new level as it features actual aluminum from the outer skin of an historic P-51 Mustang plane which took flight during World War II as well as Sweden and Israel shortly thereafter.

On this watch, you can find the aluminum on the central 30-minute subdial and on the self-winding rotor which can be seen through the display caseback. The P-51 houses a modified Swiss chronograph chronometer movement, with the addition of a 24-hour UTC hand. No detail was spared on this watch as the winding rotor is a miniature version of a P-51 propeller.

When they said Limited Edition, they meant it as only 251 of the P-51 Limited Edition chronograph will be released.

SIHH 2011 | Calibre de Cartier Astrotourbillon

SIHH 2011 | Calibre de Cartier Astrotourbillon

As part of Cartier‘s “Calibre de Cartier” collection which made its debut last year, the luxury brand has unveiled the Calibre de Cartier Astrotourbillon at this year’s SIHH in Geneva. The model features Cartier’s Calibre 9451 MC Astrotourbillon manual winding movement and the end all result looks stunning to say the least. The 47mm titanium case is fitted with a black alligator strap and is limited edition 100 pieces, each individually numbered.

Audemars Piguet Millenary Minute Repeater

Audemars Piguet Millenary Minute Repeater

Ahead of the SIHH, which takes place in less than two weeks time, is a look at Audemars Piguet‘s Millenary Minute Repeater. The timepiece is a wonderful blend of expertise, technical sophistication and innovative materials. Audemars continues to push the envelope and this watch goes show the amount of resources the watchmaker invests in R & D. The Millenary Minute Repeater is fitted with hours, minutes, seconds and minute repeater functions and equipped with a winding system specially developed for its hand-wound Calibre 2910. The refined movement features a new AP escapement, a double balance-spring, and overall construction that’s unparalleled.

The anthracite grey dial looks superb with its applied pink gold Roman numerals and silvered small seconds subdial. The oval-shaped titanium case is mated with a black hand-sewn crocodile leather strap, fastened by a titanium AP folding clasp.
