Design: I.M. Pei’s Museum of Islamic Art

I.M. Pei, for anyone who doesn’t know is a Pritzker Prize-winning Chinese-born American architect and is known as the last master of high modernist architecture. Rising on its own island just off the city’s newly developed waterfront corniche, Pei’s Museum of Islamic Art is the centerpiece of an enormous effort to transform Qatar into an arts destination.

The museum will house manuscripts, textiles, ceramics and other works mostly assembled over the last 20 years and has emerged as one of the world’s most encyclopedic collections of Islamic art. The origins of its artifacts range from Spain to Egypt to Iran, Iraq, Turkey, India and Central Asia.

After the jump, take a look at some of our favorite images of the Museum.
