Microsoft has named Satya Nadella as its new CEO. The 46 year old Microsoft exec replaces Steve Ballmer in the role and is just the third CEO in Microsoft’s history. Co-founder Bill Gates will be stepping down as Microsoft’s chairman to come into an advisory role. Satya has been at Microsoft for 22 years and will be stepping down as Executive Vice President of Cloud and Enterprise to shift into CEO and a role on the Board of Directors. He was previously shifting the company’s efforts towards cloud services and lead the growth of Microsoft Business Services where he helped to increase revenues from $1.5 billion USD to over $5 billion USD in just five year’s time.
Here’s what Satya said in an internal email to Microsoft employees:
I believe over the next decade computing will become even more ubiquitous and intelligence will become ambient. The coevolution of software and new hardware form factors will intermediate and digitize — many of the things we do and experience in business, life and our world. This will be made possible by an ever-growing network of connected devices, incredible computing capacity from the cloud, insights from big data, and intelligence from machine learning.
