The Paul Smith store in Milan will display a limited edition Vanhulsteijn bicycle as part of the upcoming Salone Internazionale del Mobile. The bike’s design is beautifully simple and complements the rare and unique frame which was made from urushi lacquer, which is a hardened sap extracted from Japanese lacquer trees, also known as “varnish trees”. The sap was then combined with a gold leaf to create the smooth finish of the “Urushi” bike which was inspired by heritage Japanese designs that led to the Dutch company’s concept and design of the bike. The price attached to owning of one of these has not been announced and is instead available upon inquiry but considering that there are only nine of them, you can expect to pay a sum corresponding to the prestige and very limited availability of the bike. The bicycles are on display and can be viewed until April 27th at the store located at Via Manzoni 30.
