Wales Bonner ‘Twilight Reverie’ FW23 Collection: Savile Row Meets Jamaican Heritage

Wales Bonner opens Paris Fashion Week with her ‘Twilight Reverie’ Fall/Winter 2023 collection. The grand Hôtel d’Évreux served as the backdrop for the show which featured an eclectic but cohesive collection. It included original music coming courtesy of Duval Timothy, Sampha, and Kendrick Lamar, paintings by renowned artist Lubaina Himid, cowrie shells, pearls, handmade Ghanaian beads, Swarovski embellishments, traditional Savile Row tailoring, and nods to Jamaican heritage. It also showcased a collaboration with Adidas Originals.

Wales Bonner’s collection, presented with the help of Savile Row tailoring experts Anderson & Sheppard, showed her signature lose but structured tailored aesthetic. Colors this season were predominantly black and soft cream and earth hues. Highlight pieces included double-breasted blazers worn over rich bouclé knits over loose-fit trousers, a sky blue crocodile-embossed leather trench coat, a brown leather bomber jacket and leather pants ensemble, snakeskin boots, and ponyskin evening slippers.

Also on display were collaboration pieces with adidas, starting with sneakers that featured a pair of strap moccasins in cream, red, and silver leather, a hiking-inspired pair, and new spins on the adidas Originals Superstar which featured chunky, sculpted soles. The adidas clothing capsule collection honored Jamaica’s national football team with jerseys in the yellow, black, and green color palette, paired with tailored tracksuits comprising fitted T-shirts and cropped jogging pants, plus football-inspired silk shirts with ‘gentlemen stripes’ designs.

Completing the collection are modern front-pleated menswear skirts, Swarovski crystal-embellished knitwear on knitwear, and hand-painted-effect artwork of Lubaina Himid on silk shirts.
